2013 2013 2013 <div class="MsoNormal">The <b>Red-backed Shrike</b>looked rather restless yesterday evening, flitting down to the sea at South Haven and back up to the Farm. It was no surprise when it was nowhere to be seen today. It was not the only bird to depart overnight, with the Island seemingly much quieter today. The migrants logged were four <b>Common Scoter</b>, a female <b>Sparrowhawk</b>, a <b>Water Rail</b>, three <b>Ringed Plover</b>, five <b>Purple Sandpiper</b>, a <b>Snipe</b>, four <b>Whimbrel</b>, two <b>Curlew</b>, a <b>Greenshank</b>, six <b>Turnstone</b>, only 11 <b>Lesser Black-backed Gull</b>, three <b>Skylark</b>, two <b>Sand Martin</b>, 169 <b>Swallow</b>, three <b>Grey Wagtail</b>, 16 <b><i>alba </i>wagtail</b>, the first two <b>Dunnock</b> of the autumn, 18 <b>Robin</b>, eight <b>Wheatear</b>, five <b>Blackbird</b>, nine <b>Sedge Warbler</b>, two <b>Blackcap</b>, three <b>Whitethroat</b>, 12 <b>Chiffchaff</b>, 11 <b>Willow Warbler</b>, eight <b>Goldcrest</b> and three <b>Spotted Flycatcher</b>. The first <b>Grey Seal</b> pup to be seen this year was in Dumbbell Bay, although it looked about a week old and had presumably been tucked up out of sight. Hywel, our visiting archaeologist, departed this morning having overseen the digging in of the water pipe system. Having finished with the pipes, the Work Party dispersed to tackle many jobs including a new door frame for the Wheelhouse, filling in and glazing three new windows, taking the old dumper truck to pieces, digging North Pond, repairing doors at the Lighthouse, bricking in around the water system taps and Anna has been taking care of us all by producing amazing meals. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MICaETTsBOA/UjDazywQwUI/AAAAAAAACR4/ZKyTZ6H7PCc/s1600/DSC_4941.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MICaETTsBOA/UjDazywQwUI/AAAAAAAACR4/ZKyTZ6H7PCc/s640/DSC_4941.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">A ridiculously scarce bird this year, the eight Goldcrests recorded today was the highest count of the autumn so far. © Giselle Eagle<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4lN55k5_1m4/UjDbCRXIgBI/AAAAAAAACSA/qM1NZseYoqs/s1600/DSC_4936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4lN55k5_1m4/UjDbCRXIgBI/AAAAAAAACSA/qM1NZseYoqs/s640/DSC_4936.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SZgKudu3rxs/UjDbSMy9QtI/AAAAAAAACSI/ekpOYMVx1OY/s1600/DSC_4935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SZgKudu3rxs/UjDbSMy9QtI/AAAAAAAACSI/ekpOYMVx1OY/s640/DSC_4935.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">Some of the on-going work around the Farm.
