2013

2013 2013 2013
A first year Barred Warbler trapped in the courtyard was the first since the 27th of August 2004 and gave the impression that scarcer birds were finally starting to filter through from the east coast. The Wryneck on North Plain kept its head down for the morning but reappeared in the same place as yesterday mid-afternoon; it was no surprise as Wrynecks linger more often than not. Other migrants on a generally quiet day included a Kestrel, a Snipe, two Whimbrel, two Curlew, 15 Robin, 50 Wheatear, six Sedge Warbler, two Blackcap, seven Whitethroat, two Chiffchaff, 32 Willow Warbler, four Goldcrest and eight Spotted Flycatcher. There is definitely an exciting autumnal feeling to proceedings at the moment with three decent birds in five days. Tomorrow sees the start of our autumn work party, so there are some long hard days ahead (but they will be fantastic).

There have been 17 previous records of Barred Warbler, all first year birds in September or October. One on the 12th of September 1956 was the second for Wales.
