2013 2013 2013 <div class="MsoNormal">Yet another stunning day was perfect for extending the <b>Manx Shearwater</b> study plot, utilising the first of the 101 paving slabs delivered a couple of days ago. We managed to get 56 new burrow hatches in and ringed a similar number of large chicks. A good variety of birds were also recorded; two <b>Sparrowhawk</b>, three <b>Buzzard</b>, a <b>Water Rail</b>, the first two <b>Purple Sandpiper</b> of the autumn, two <b>Snipe</b>, 21 <b>Black-tailed Godwit</b> heading southeast, two <b>Whimbrel</b>, two <b>Curlew</b>, a <b>Redshank</b>, six <b>Turnstone</b>, 25 <b>Black-headed Gull</b> and two <b>Common Gull</b> feeding on flying ants on the Neck, two <b>‘commic’ tern</b>, a juvenile <b>Cuckoo</b>, 20 <b>Swallow</b>, 15 <b>House Martin</b>, a <b>Tree Pipit</b>, three <b>Yellow Wagtail</b>, 67 <b><i>alba </i>wagtail</b>including 34 <b>White Wagtail</b>, four <b>Robin</b>, a <b>Whinchat</b>, 23 <b>Wheatear</b>, five <b>Sedge Warbler</b>, a <b>Blackcap</b>, four <b>Whitethroat</b>, four <b>Willow Warbler</b>and six <b>Starling </b>were logged. <b>Storm Petrel </b>ringing at South Haven last night gave all the guests the opportunity to release one of these amazing pelagic seabirds and we also managed another control as well. A bat at the farm this evening looked small and Pipistrelle-like, but the bat detector was at the Lighthouse. The stunning calm weather was not just good for a bat making its way over from the mainland; <b>Speckled Wood</b> and <b>Wall </b>butterflies were also recorded today. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jaIuNf5wHdM/Uh5pZDxGyVI/AAAAAAAACI4/iqFcD-l6yE8/s1600/DSC_4657.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jaIuNf5wHdM/Uh5pZDxGyVI/AAAAAAAACI4/iqFcD-l6yE8/s640/DSC_4657.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fT0DMrbNR2w/Uh5ppZX6ONI/AAAAAAAACJA/t0VTXgsA-QQ/s1600/DSC_4654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fT0DMrbNR2w/Uh5ppZX6ONI/AAAAAAAACJA/t0VTXgsA-QQ/s640/DSC_4654.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--CoLUziIUSI/Uh5pyW6pgwI/AAAAAAAACJI/ML-m6_MIl5M/s1600/DSC_4663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--CoLUziIUSI/Uh5pyW6pgwI/AAAAAAAACJI/ML-m6_MIl5M/s640/DSC_4663.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-79dRHztvkAY/Uh5qbrrA0tI/AAAAAAAACJU/YyuDIOYcMo4/s1600/DSC_4673.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-79dRHztvkAY/Uh5qbrrA0tI/AAAAAAAACJU/YyuDIOYcMo4/s640/DSC_4673.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">Our BTO sponsored helper Justin joined us at the Lighthouse study plot to put in new inspection hatches.
