2013 2013 2013
A damp and overcast morning soon cleared to leave another beautiful day. Although there were fewer birds around we still logged a Grey Heron, a Water Rail, a Dunlin, two Snipe, a Whimbrel, three Curlew, a Redshank, a Common Sandpiper, four Turnstone, two Black-headed Gull, a Guillemot, a juvenile Cuckoo, a Sand Martin, three Yellow Wagtail, 70 alba wagtail including 33 White Wagtail, two Robin, 12 Wheatear, a Song Thrush, seven Sedge Warbler, a Reed Warbler, two Whitethroat, six Willow Warbler and five Starling. We spent several hours today locating and renovating the Storm Petrel nest boxes hidden at various points around the Island. Several had totally filled with soil, the result of many years of ant activities and wind blow. However three contained chicks! This will provide a fantastic opportunity to monitor their development, something rarely studied of late. The Storm Petrel chick closest to the Farm, which weighed 20.8g two days ago, has put on 6.4g.

We were joined over the weekend by Lucy, Chris and their very special friend Pal. Together they have created three amazing books about Pal’s adventures. These children’s stories will make the perfect gift, but they need your help to make it happen.
