2013 2013 2013 <div class="MsoNormal">Another cracking day of autumn passage took our minds off a double failure on the water system which had Rich busy for the afternoon playing with a gushing ram and a dodgy float switch. However a juvenile <b>Cuckoo</b>, three <b>House Martin</b>, three <b>Tree Pipit</b>, three (although possibly five) <b>Yellow Wagtail </b>including one trapped, 72 <b><i>alba </i>wagtail</b> including 25 <b>White Wagtail</b>, two <b>Robin</b>, the first <b>Whinchat</b>of the autumn, a <b>Song Thrush</b>, a <b>Whitethroat</b> and seven <b>Willow Warbler </b>more than made up for the headaches. A female <b>Sparrowhawk</b>, a male <b>Kestrel</b>, a <b>Ringed Plover</b>, four <b>Snipe</b>, five <b>Whimbrel</b>, three <b>Curlew</b>and a <b>Redshank </b>went over. A <b>Great Skua</b> was close in and 25 <b>‘commic’ tern</b> were very distant. The morning changeover saw our four RSPB ringers depart and new ringers Mike and Ian arrive – a juvenile <b>Yellow Wagtail</b>was a pretty good start. We were joined by Justin Gillings who is being funded by the BTO’s Young Bird Obs Volunteer Fund; he is going to have a busy few days helping us with our <b>Manx Shearwater</b>and <b>Storm Petrel</b> monitoring. We were also joined by Christine and Lewis, Assistant Wardens on Skokholm in 1987. Their highlight from then was a <b>Red-backed Shrike</b> out of their bedroom window and sitting with a picnic and the auks at Twinlet. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3dANQfQCD28/UhvSEQHbn9I/AAAAAAAACH8/bImGNU_usec/s1600/DSC_4621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3dANQfQCD28/UhvSEQHbn9I/AAAAAAAACH8/bImGNU_usec/s640/DSC_4621.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lkUs958M8s4/UhvSQnBY2pI/AAAAAAAACIE/29ebj_CZW8U/s1600/DSC_4625.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lkUs958M8s4/UhvSQnBY2pI/AAAAAAAACIE/29ebj_CZW8U/s640/DSC_4625.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Mike and Ian got off to a good start with about 20 birds this afternoon.
