2013 2013 2013 <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5cxxEXY_Vg/Udf3_SWNL0I/AAAAAAAABh0/mib6iapl89U/s1600/crochetbyconroy1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5cxxEXY_Vg/Udf3_SWNL0I/AAAAAAAABh0/mib6iapl89U/s640/crochetbyconroy1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">I hadn't intended to order the yarn for my Game of Thrones blanket quite so soon after picking the charts back up last week, but as there was so little designing left to do I needed to get hold of at least some of the colours so I could test crochet/knit one of the charts to see how they worked. Earlier on in the week, I received a wonderfully large and squishy parcel from <a href="http://www.deramores.com/">Deramores</a>.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FE2LComhlQM/UdxiUpwut5I/AAAAAAAABiE/bEXwLacmkrI/s1600/DSC03375.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FE2LComhlQM/UdxiUpwut5I/AAAAAAAABiE/bEXwLacmkrI/s400/DSC03375.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All Stylecraft Special DK apart from the orange on the top left,<br />which is Hayfield Bonus DK (Stylecraft didn't have the right colour!)</td></tr></tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ok, so I couldn't stick to buying just a few colours. Besides, it's worth spending more to get the free delivery, which is how these two ended up falling into my virtual basket on the way to the checkout.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Z4-NzfLvI4/Udxl23AqqLI/AAAAAAAABio/6pjKZn2KqiU/s1600/DSC03372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Z4-NzfLvI4/Udxl23AqqLI/AAAAAAAABio/6pjKZn2KqiU/s320/DSC03372.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5P0k5IcX53c/Udxl3R2yjeI/AAAAAAAABis/7iNnI2NtIEM/s1600/DSC03374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5P0k5IcX53c/Udxl3R2yjeI/AAAAAAAABis/7iNnI2NtIEM/s320/DSC03374.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Rico Essentials Cotton DK, in preparation for another KAL in September where I will be knitting a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/roaring-dinosaur">toy</a> from a <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Knitted-Toys-Fresh-Fabulous-Designs/dp/0600614867">book</a> I've had for years and never used. Fortunately, it also fits in the Year of Projects, as it is destined to be a Christmas present.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anyway, back to my blanket. Just looking at the yarn above, it seems like a really odd selection of colours, but to help explain the colour choices, here is how they pair up in the ten House sigils I am including in the blanket.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DxK7EqhjTbk/UdxkQ-sKsvI/AAAAAAAABiU/dbQNjwvS22o/s1600/stash+yarn4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DxK7EqhjTbk/UdxkQ-sKsvI/AAAAAAAABiU/dbQNjwvS22o/s640/stash+yarn4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The yellow looks a little bright compared to the other colours, but with the exception of House Baratheon, it's a motif colour rather than the shield colour, so it should be alright!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'm going to pick one of the two colour shields to test, probably Stark or Frey as they have the most sensible motifs (and having done the lion chart I'm using for Lannister fairly recently in thread crochet, I'm not entirely happy to be making it again quite so soon), and I'm hoping to test it in both knitting and crochet, to make sure the chart works in both crafts.
