Clay Shaw died after a long illness yesterday. The Herald obit omitted his signature achievement. A decade ago, Shaw was the only senior elected Republican to stand up to then Governor Jeb! Bush and speak up for the Everglades and against the Bush plan that caused more than a ten year delay in Everglades restoration. For defying the lockstep that Bush demanded, Shaw was ostracized. Famously, Bush figuratively pushed him off the stage at a public event where the dismal plan was championed by Bush lieutenants.
